This week, Serving Our Youth, a report by the The Palette Fund, the True Colors Fund‘s Forty to None Project, and the Williams Institute, was released on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth homelessness. Conducted from October 2011 through March 2012, the survey was designed to assess the experiences of homeless youth organizations in providing services to LGBT youth.
Particularly unsettling about this study is how family rejection on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity was the most frequently cited issue contributing to LGBT homelessness. Second to that, was youth being forced out of their family homes as a consequence of coming out as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender.
